Rocking The Light At A Content Studio In Auckland
Thinking about hiring a content studio in Auckland? Excellent move. These places are absolute goldmines for creating sharp, scroll stopping content, whether you are rocking a DSLR or just your trusty iPhone.
But here is the thing. A studio is only as good as the light you know how to use. If you want your shots to look like you actually know what you are doing, lighting is the entire game.
If you book a studio like Mackenzie Studios, we can literally swing by for part of your session, set up the lighting, show you how to use the natural light and the gear on site, take a few hero shots for you, then hand you the reins. You get pro level setups without needing a full blown photographer for the whole booking. Smart and cost effective. We love that for you.
And because not everyone can throw cash at a pro photographer every five minutes, here is some free lighting wisdom.
Use the giant windows
That big wall of daylight is your best friend. Drag the furniture into the brighter areas. No one cares how it was originally set up. Make the space work for you. Just make sure you put it all back like a GC.

Backdrops go opposite the window
Line them up straight across from the window. That gives you gorgeous, flattering light that makes everyone look a bit more alive.
Watch the bounce
On bright days the building across the street bounces light right back into the studio like a massive free reflector. Keep an eye on where it lands and plant yourself in that magic patch.

Side light is spicy
If the light comes in from the side, use a reflector to fill the shadows or go full moody vibes and lean into it. Both can look amazing.
Embrace the moodier side lighting and shadows…

Play with the Godox lights
They live in the cupboard. They are not scary. Pull them out. Experiment. Especially on gloomy days. Keep them steady and treat them nicely and you will get some beautiful results.
These lights are brilliant for headshots and close up video. Bring them closer than feels normal. The closer the light source, the softer and more flattering the light. Set them slightly above face level and angle them down. Easy.

Bump up your iPhone exposure
Tap your screen in Photo mode and drag the little sun icon up. Instant brightness boost. Or grab a manual camera app so your phone stops auto dimming like it is trying to sabotage you.
Up that brightness for colours popping and the room looking fresh 📷✌️
If all of this sounds like a lot to juggle, you can always hire SheShoots to come in and set everything up so you can focus on looking brilliant. We know Mackenzie Studios inside out and we will help you absolutely own that space. Ready when you are.
